• Before adjusting the pH, make sure the alkalinity (buffering capacity) is above 80 ppm. This can be accomplished by simply adding baking soda (or soda ash) to the water in small increments
• The pH adjuster should be added in small increments to prevent shock to the pond
• The pH should change no more than 0.2 units per day
• ?Test the pH after 24 hours to see if another treatment is needed
• Record all test results
• Dry pH adjusters are easier and safer to handle than liquid pH adjusters
• It may take 4 to 6 weeks for the pond or lake to achieve a balance
